Ideas from short films we have used for inspiration
One-Minute Time Machine
In the One-Minute Time Machine there is non diegetic music playing alongside the conversation, we like this idea because although we think we are going to have little or no dialouge this proves to us that having music playing whilst conversation is taking place doesnt ruin a film. In fact if the correct music is chosen it can make the film very good becsause it keeps the pace of the film moving, quickly enough so you dont feel bored just listening to the conversation taking place.
This encouraged me and Meg to research into the music we were trying to find for our short film and deciding if it gave off the right mood and fit with the genre.
The Black Hole
In The Black Hole something that really intersted me and Meg was the use of camera shots. One thing about them it that there are lots of different camera shots which makes the film interesting not leaving time for the audience to get bored. Futhermore is the clever use of camera shots which when looking into it, portray more than just a simple close up etc... For example there is a shot reverse shot, from the close up to the zooming into the door, back to the close up of him which although we dont hear him, it portrays him thinking about what’s behind that door, this also gives a mysterious feel towards the audience.
Me and Meg think that it is really clever how the shots can make the audience belive something that is not portrayed any other way, just by the angle of the shot, this really encouraged me and Meg to think about the camera angles and shots we were using as we figured they are clearly a large part in telling the story.
One Mans Loss
One thing I take from this short film and would like to portray in our short film as well is the lack of dialouge without missing meaning and making the film awkward. It is someting we would want to be able to do in our short film however we are concerned the audience may not understand what was happening in the story without it being explained through words. As one mans loss has no main plot only a moral they wish to convey to the audience it suggests the plot is not as important as we thought and perhaps means we will be able use minimal dialouge without it being awkward.
This helped me and Meg feel more confident about our production and that having minimal dialouge will not make our film bad, and that with the right, mise-en-scene, camera shots and angles and thr correct editing a film with minimal dialouge can work.
